about

Composer and scientist Peter Compo’s "Films" is his first collection of hybrid electronica, an album influenced by films of the 20th-century, with each piece invoking the vibe of an individual film or film venue. "Films" is founded on pop music but anchored by classical music’s development of ideas. Compo draws on a wide sound palette—from noise and mangled, glitched melodies to clean electronic bass and synth lines—giving the music its own unique sonic character. Compo has no fear of fortifying his electronica with analog guitar, bass, uke, strings, and drums. Both improvised and tightly composed, one listener described Films as nearly child-like in its compositional and sonic freedom, yet at the same time deeply disciplined and cohesive in its conception.
